Blog Briefing #002

Hello to all my lovely readers and occasional passersby.  I’ve not been much of a presence these past few weeks and I felt a little update would be a good idea just so everyone knows what’s going on.

Last week marked my 200th post on WordPress and it went without any fanfare.  I had planned on updating the layout of my blog and would begin categorising everything I’d written under themed titles.  This however hasn’t happened yet as I’ve been consumed with travel plans

As regular readers and commenter’s might already know this rambling Scotsman is setting off on a well needed vacation across the Atlantic to that place of dreams they call America.  It really has consumed my attention as not only have I been planning the trip, I’ve been making sure that during the time im travelling posts will still be going up on the blog.  I leave on the Saturday September 24th and won’t be back home until November 2nd so there’s a lot of time to cover.  I’ve came up with a few plans that will keep you, mt lovely readers, entertained while I’m off exploring.

I havn’t planned the order in which the series will fall but right now I have three im planning to launch starting September 26th

I’m going to revisit ‘Playlist Poetry’ and have another seven poems posted take inspiration from song titles.  The lyrics and the bands don’t matter its all about what I can pull from the title alone as a prompt.  This will eventually turn into a linked series I’ll be highlighting on my home page as by the end of this series I’ll have fourteen poems under this heading.

I’ve also planned a series of micro poems.  The poems will be four line concise poems and will be batched in groups of three under similar themes.  This was an unintended project and all came from my use of the phase ‘There’s a poem in that’ and a back and forth exchange with one of my favourite people.

The last series is a ten part series based on Scottish words.  This is the one I’m most looking forward to and is a poetic study in local language and accent.  All of these poems will have audio recordings so all you lovely readers can get the full effect of the written words.  I’m not going to go into too much details, it’ll get a proper introduction come its launch.

During this time I’ll also be trying a write and post in addition to these as the experiences I have inspire more nonsense in me.  The point of the three series plans above is to make sure atleast one post goes out per day and will give me time to take a break from writing and really enjoy this vacation.

Now as for this  week it’s going to be more hectic and getting the time to write is going to be limited.  With over 200 posts now I’ve decided that over the next seven days I’m going to share an old post from my first month blogging.  Given that my follower count has grown since those very early days it might be nice for newer followers to see some of the earlier works.  It’ll also give me a chance to do some more audio recordings as I’ve not been doing any of those lately.  Yes I know this sounds like a cheat but I have a few poems that I consider to be rather good that I’d like a wider audience to take a look at.  I’ll be sharing an old post at 16:00GMT all this week and if I have time I might get to post some original pieces too.

The post that’ll go up today will be a re-posting of my very first piece.  It’s the prologue to a novelette I wrote called ‘Tails of Rabbitopolous.’  The full thirteen chapters were serialised as my first batch of posts and I’d love to see if I can get some more interest for the story as I’m rather proud of it.

I’ve never went travelling alone and if I’m honest I’m a little terrified, but I’m almost thirty and I need to do this now while I still have the freedom to do so.  The plan so far is Flying out to LA and staying there until October 2nd where I’ll fly over to the east coast and start travelling up from North Carolina.  It’s a daunting trip and I’d welcome and friends in the areas I’m visiting who’d like to show me around or even have suggestions of things to do and see.  I’m really looking forward to this and I’m sure I’ll have a fair few stories to tell once it’s all over.

For now, thanks for your patience with me. I hope this explains why I’ve been so remise and keeping up with your blogs and not very quick on the replies.  I’m sure this is going to continue till November but I just want you all to know I’m still here, I’m still working away on my writing and I’m still very much interested in what you’re all doing.  Right now I’m just being a tad self-centred

Thanks for reading and I’m looking forward to catching up with your blogs and hearing your thoughts on the new wave of nonsense that’s about to fill my blog.

I know this is going to go to spam because there’s another one (or two maybe) in there but anyway…I would love to meet you if you come nearby to Boston. But only if you’ll let me play with your hair. 😛 I’m kidding! But yes, please e-mail me and I’ll give you my number and when you’re in the area we can meet up. 🙂

    1. Yeah I’ve had a few from different people go to spam but for some reason this one didn’t. Weird. I’m trying really hard to catch up but time is not on my side. I’m probably going to sit at the airport and just read for hours between flights and catch up.

The east coast leg ad yet has no itinerary but if Iake it up that far I’ll totally be sending an email!
As for my hair…im sure we can come to an arrangement! Ahahaha 😋

Oh, well that’s good! WP is weird sometimes. Don’t worry about catching up! Enjoy yourself. 🙂 And yes, if you make it up here, let me know. I promise to be gentle to your hair. 😉

  2. Can’t wait to read your Scottish words series. It’s cool you wrote a novelette! I’ve written one earlier this year. If you go to North Carolina, be sure to try the Bo Berry Biscuits at Bojangles. I know food in the US is really sweet but omg they’re so good. If you go to NYC, I’m guessing you’d visit Manhattan? If you do, Times Square is touristy and fun, but if you need a break from the crowds on 7th Ave, you can go over to 6th Avenue. It’s less crowded and there’s still plenty of shops and restaurants. Not sure if you’re going there, but I figured I’d offer some tips. If you want any advice about East Coast travels feel free to ask 🙂

    1. Thr Scottish words series has really been a lot of fun. I don’t know yet when it’s going up. Maybe the first week of October.
The novelette is utter nonsense but I think it’s a really good story. I hope to do a book release with it next year.

Thanks so much for the advice. I might just call on you for east coast advice. I’m so very excited to see as much as possible!

        1. Oh in sure I’ll have a great time. Getting really excited and slightly terrified now. Haha.
I was planning on nevada but it turns out I only have so much money and can’t do everything. My original plan was totally greedy. It would have worked if I didn’t have to eat or need hotels. Ahahaha!!

          1. Ha, at least you’re able to have a budget. It’s a good time of year for travel, too, since it’s a little less hot than summer. I’m so glad it’s fall (even if it means being closer to the election, ugh). As far as I’m concerned it’s Halloween season. But yea food and hotels cost money but can also be part of the fun 🙂

            1. It’s all been very impromptu so it’s all fallen together quite nicely.
Me and the weather never get on cause I’ve never learned to dress appropriately. Hopefully I’ll be more clever about it.
I’ve only just realised I’ll be in country for Halloween I might have to find something to do. I really should have packed a costume. I suppose I could just dress as a lost foreigner 😄

              1. I should find something to do for Halloween myself. I’ve been pinning treats and craft ideas on Pinterest for months. I usually just watch movies and give candy to trick or treaters. And watch Hocus Pocus and Charlie Brown multiple times
